As per a few posts ago, I mentioned that I will be travelling around for 6 weeks around Europe and Sri Lanka before I leave London for good and head back home to Sydney. I thought I would update everyone on my holiday so far!
7th September – 12th September was Scotland! Amazing amazing Scotland! I have been to Scotland at least five times now, and I still love the country! Can’t get enough of it Edinburgh is my favourite city but this time I didn’t visit Edinburgh but headed into the Scottish Highlands instead. We drove around and did the NC500 starting at Inverness and visited Loch Ness and Culloden Moor. Headed off west and stopped off at various places to break up the driving every few days, till we made our way up to Scrabster right up North to catch the ferry up to the Orkney Islands. The Orkney Islands were amazing and wished we stayed longer! So much to do there and so much history! Was quite surprised at the amount of history these little islands held. Oh and the produce!!! The food was just superb! Haven’t tasted beef like that before! YUM!!!
12th – 16th September we were in Malta! I had a great time and really enjoyed my stay. A very rich naval history, coupled with perfect weather! Beautiful beaches and ocean views all throughout the island, although the food wasn’t as good as I expected for an island nation. Would love to come back and do the surrounding islands and beaches!
16th – 25th September flew into Sicily for a few nights, and spent the majority of our time in Rome. Lots of cultural things to do in Rome with the most obvious being the Roman Amphitheatre (Colosseum) and the surrounding ruins of Palatine Hill. Also did a full day at the Vatican museums and St. Peter’s Basilica. This church is one of the most beautiful churches I have ever been to and it holds Michaelangelo’s Pieta sculpture which I have been dying to see and it is so beautifully made…it really is breathtaking in real life! The Sistine Chapel within the Vatican museums was also beautiful….and totally worth the hype! Flew into Sardinia for a few days after Rome which has been wonderful! Loved the whole island and the food and wine! They have their own style of cuisine and I really enjoyed being surprised by how good the food was! Definitely coming back here again and seeing the rest of the island! A strong cultural heritage is also associated with the island which I also enjoyed.
26th September – Flew into Milan this morning and just staying here tonight and tomorrow. Highly fashionable city! Feel so daggy with our backpacks and crappy clothes haha….Visiting a few sights tomorrow and hopefully will get to see Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper”. Very excited about that!
Keep you all posted on more travels along the way Halfway through the trip now! That went very fast! Hope everyone is keeping well!
