Ohhh this was a beautifully Christmasy anthology…These stories are the epitome of a 90s romance novel and contain some typical themes of the 90s like pirates and westerns! It was like revisiting an old friend and I was reminded of why I fell so deeply in love with the romance genre when I first read it at fifteen. I started this book on Christmas day 2016 but took my time finishing it as I read some of the stories post Christmas as well, to let the magic of Christmas linger a bit longer….If you are planning to pick up this anthology, definitely start reading it into the leadup for Christmas, as they are such feel-good Christmas stories, it will leave you anticipating the holiday even more!
“One Little Miracle” by Shannon Drake
I’m a big sucker for a pirate romance and I went through a major pirate phase when I first started reading historical romance and this did not disappoint! It’s written in a classic pirate trope of a high-born lady journeying through the seas to meet her future husband in an unwanted marriage but is captured at sea by a handsome pirate and held for ransom, where they end up falling in love with each other. If you are seeking a quickie swashbuckling romance with some Christmas thrown in, then this is for you
“Gifts of the Heart” by Judith E. French
Facing the shattering prospect of her first Christmas alone, a wife reminisces of her love and life with her husband. A beautiful love story featuring an older couple and their unwavering love for each other through all the trials of life and a wife’s wish of an impossible Christmas miracle. This story is what Christmas miracles are all about! Heartbreakingly sweet, be prepared to cry (sniff).
“Love’s Gift” by Sara Orwig
Westerns!! My other historical romance weakness! A rancher tomboy advertises for prospective husbands to please her dying father and to help out with her ranch, and she only receives one applicant- her not so friendly neighbouring rancher. A marriage of mutual convenience and benefit turns into something so much more in this sweet romance of love after marriage.
“One Enchanted Christmas” by Rebecca Paisley
Quirky heroines who are sweetly innocent and too good to be true? Then you know it’s a Paisley! A Christmas Scrooge widower hates Christmas with a passion, until a beautiful mysterious woman breezes into his house, breathing love and a touch of magic, back into his and his son’s life in this delightfully paranormal Christmas romance!
Overall this anthology is a keeper for sure! Rebecca Paisley’s books are all autobuys and keepers for me anyway, but it’s great when the rest of the stories are also worthwhile reads. Loved it! I have the Christmas fuzzies now
