His shoulders were broad, and muscles that had to have been developed by years of hard labor bulged from beneath his half-opened, white linen shirt. His legs were the width of mighty oaks that stretched the black material of his breeches to the limit, demonstrating every bit of prowess his body had to offer. But it was his face that made women catch their breath. A strong jaw. Sculpted cheekbones. A dangerous smile. Handsome, much too handsome. . .

His name was Captain Lucifer. His ruthless mastery of the sea was a notorious as his wicked way with women. And Catherine Abelard was his beautiful captive. By enslaving the stepdaughter of his enemy, the infamous pirate would have his final revenge. He would punish her with his kisses and force her to surrender to his every whim, every passion, every desire. But the devilish captor became the prisoner of his own longing. For Catherine found the tenderness beneath the treachery, the beauty within the beast. . . the lover behind the legend.

This book firmly belongs on my keeper shelf! I read this ages ago so I’m definitely due for a re-read but I remember being so surprised by this story (despite the bodice ripper style blurb!) and really loved the character development between Catherine and Lucifer. He plays the role of a big, bad pirate but who really is a softie when it comes to Catherine. A revenge style plot romance with lots of adventure on the high seas! You won’t be able to put this one down! The paperback is OOP but there is a Kindle version on Amazon :)

About Donna Fletcher

Donna Fletcher is a USA Today bestselling author. It was her love of reading that started it all. Her mother fed her passion by signing her up for a Young Adult book club and from then on she was never without a book. Whether on a bus, train, or plane or simply standing on line, you’ll now find her either reading or writing.

Donna writes historical romances and part of the fun in writing them, she admits, is doing the research. Getting lost in Scotland in 1514 proved enlightening and exciting and learning about pirates on the high seas was thrilling and chilling. Her paranormal romances, Wyrrd Witch Series, took her into the arcane world of magic, though it is not a foreign place to her. She has studied the mystical arts and the history of witches over the years and finds them fascinating.

It is with her characters she has the most fun. She loves giving life to fresh and exciting characters that never cease to surprise and inspire her. She feels their excitement as they face the pleasures and pitfalls of falling in love, for love is truly a grand adventure.

Donna lives on the beautiful Jersey shore surrounded by family and friends and a cat who thinks she is a princess, but what cat doesn’t, and a dog who bows to the princess’s every demand.

  • LOL! I was just thinking as I read the blurb that it was like the bodice ripper romances of the 70s- and 80s. But I’ve learned that sometimes the wrappings of the cover and blurb might sell a book short. Good to know there’s some substance in this one. I haven’t read a pirate romance in ages. :)

    • Hehe yeah I know the blurb is quite hilarious in the modern romantic times! I still love the older style romances though! Pirate romances are quite old school, that’s why I thought I would start this feature….I’m sure there’s some great ones we have missed over the years!

  • I LOVED this book so much, I am with you that this book needs a re read. This author is amazing right? She writes the best angst in HR. Glad to see you enjoyed this one so much too. And there are many bodice ripper books that aren’t really what they appear on the outside.
