Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out....

Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea.

This was a random lunchtime purchase for me mainly because my hands were itching to hold a book! It’s been a while since I have read a paperback so it felt so good to read and hold an old-fashioned book! I’m still a paperback book girl at heart no matter how much I adore my iPad mini :)

Well well well this was definitely an afternoon delight hahaha….I started reading…and reading and reading…and just couldn’t stop (still took me four days to finish but anyway we won’t mention my lack of time over these last few weeks..barely had time to pee!) but yes what I’m trying to say is I really enjoyed the book and its host of characters…I knew the Sookie Stackhouse series was a huge hit with readers when “Dead Until Dark” first came out so I’ve been meaning to get to these series for ages and yay it has finally happened! Now I’m kinda hooked :D

Sooooo True Blood is also based on this…I knew there was a TV series on these books but didn’t realise it was TRUE BLOOD! I haven’t seen this TV show either so now I have to add this to my TV list..geez thanks for taking over my life Charlaine Harris….lol

Sookie Stackhouse is a mind reading, cocktail waitress from Bon Temps Louisiana and on a fateful night she meets Bill the Vampire and suddenly her everyday, boring life ricochets to not so boring when she starts dating Bill and meeting his funny looking and intense vampire friends but murders also start happening all over her small Southern town and this really is unfortunate timing for Sookie and her boyfriend because really what are the chances of her vampire boyfriend being involved with these murders? Highly likely seemingly because not everybody is a fan of vampire resident in town…To add to her problems, her normally reserved and disinterested boss also suddenly seems sweet on Sookie and is keen on showing her a different side of him! What’s a girl to do?

Ahhh Sookie! She is certainly not one for the vapours! I really really LOVE anything Southern! I don’t know how I developed this fascination because I have never been there! But really…big porches, iced-tea, bayous and all those lazy sounding summers what’s not to like? Get ready for an immersive Southern experience in Sookie’s world where vampires have been accepted and acknowledged openly by the public but are still surrounded by mystery. Bill introduces Sookie to his world and it’s not as it romantic as it seems but it definitely is scary and interesting with many larger than life characters. The world building and characters drew me in straight away and Sookie’s personality just made me laugh! I’m loving this intriguing love triangle between Bill and Sam (Sookie’s boss) and can’t wait to read more of her adventures!

A great blend of mystery and romance with an easy to read feel! I have already purchased the second book! Woohoo!
